WC.com: You served as captain with Steve Konowalchuk over the 2001-02 season. What do you remember about your experiences in that position?

WC.com: General how would you say you created as a defenseman throughout your career while using Capitals? What had an impact on how you developed your own role with the team?

You’re not necessarily here to chip in offensively. You’re a defenseman – you’re going to be known for being tough. Challenging defensemen play against top collections and penalty killing. And so, I kind of knew which role and I kind of became a shot blocker and a defenseman that attempted to make other teams leading lines’ night a living hell, simply a tough night on them. And lots of that was playing mental online games and trying to get under players’ skin color – getting punched in the mind and trying to keep my composure and not swing back.”

On his role with the Capitals: “I just prided a great deal of myself in my defensive region because I was the type of gambler who [knew he] was never going to get Ten goals and 30 assists. I just wasn’t that style of player. Every team, each and every player plays a role and it’s important because it’ohydrates all like glue – if perhaps everyone plays their function properly, the team should have accomplishment. We had success and we had success in winning the actual Southeast Division [during the 1999-00 as well as 2000-01 seasons].
